Our annual introduction to trail running is fast approaching! Sprinting off at 4pm (make sure you are there at least half an hour before the start) this event is for both younger and older runners. Younger runners are catered for with a short course and if tackling a longer course we recommend an adult running with them. Safety is very important of course!

The event is free. A great way to meet friends and put some dust (or mud) on your trail running shoes and kick off the 2015 trail running season.  How does it work? Well, basically you have up to an hour in which to accumulate as many tokens as possible by running around a combination of courses of your choice. Each run course is worth a certain number of tokens with longer courses attracting more tokens. After an hour each runner exchanges his or her tokens for playing cards with the winner making up the best “poker hand”. It’s a test not only for your legs but also your brain as you attempt to gather the most tokens possible in an hour.

Where is this all happening? Meet at the car park almost at the end of McGregor Road, Smithfield, just past the turn off to the James Cook University. See the map of the Poker Run Courses, 2015  below this notice.

Volunteers needed! No event can run without your help! We will need at least one person on Registration and at least two people handing out tokens to runners as they complete each circuit. Anyone who can and would like to help, please contact me  via email at                             trailrunning@roadrunners.org.au or phone me on 0459 020 091

See you there! Dave OBrien, Race Director
